A letter from Tartarus; An Esotericon Setting Piece

My dear Captain Mortuus,

I am delighted with your offer to open diplomatic relations between our realms. Your ship, the HMSS Persephone sounds fascinating in its capabilities. I have taken the liberty of sending one of my finest consorts as well as a few of her personal staff to serve aboard your ship as a gesture of goodwill and to allow for reliable communications between us. The Lady has been most enthusiastic in her desires to get out and see more of what the universe has to offer and I am sure she will find plenty to keep her interested aboard your vessel.

Let me also apologise for the enthusiasm of my subordinates in defending our realm from intruders when first you visited.

It pleases me to say we have managed to reanimate most of the men you lost to within acceptable standards. Should you wish these men to return to service upon your ship I shall be happy to return them to you. You will need to take into account that their dietary requirements have changed, as have their requirements for rest and external stimulation. Their memories are also somewhat affected as part of the process.

My court physician and necromancer has placed himself at your disposal should you need him for guidance or direct intervention as required.

I find your concept of a meeting for the Realms most intriguing. A chance to see what the possibilities of trade and diplomatic relations between our worlds could do with the incredible resources each has at their disposal is an opportunity one simply could not miss.

Alas I find travel rather more difficult in these times so I shall have to send an ambassador in my stead. I pray this does not offend you. No doubt the heads of the other realms will do the same, refusing to leave their core leadership at risk should you be unable to keep their animosity towards each other and us to a minimum. You would be wise to keep an eye on them, especially should they discover our arrangement with regards to the development of your portal technology.

With evident sincerity,

Grandmother

Persephone – An Esotericon Fragment

On the ship between the worlds,
The lonely spirit seeks,
A way to stop the hungry dark,
That ever closer creeps.
Persephone, she none shall hear,
Believing that she sleeps.
Inside her bloodied, metal shell
A guardian angel weeps.

This is a setting piece for the interactive, narratively driven convention Esotericon, of which I am primary writer.
